Major simplification of the analyze flow

THE most important Binocs feature is off course the analyze flow (=the Binocs algorithm comparing the demand with the capacity and creating the reports). We just finished a major simplification of that flow.

1. It’s more obvious how to update the reports

When you wanted to see the effects of a recent input change in the past you had to create a new analysis, choose some settings, set constrained/unconstrained and even worse only administrators could make an analysis public and published. Now it’s single-click direct.

You’ll find one button “update analysis” on every analyze screen and everybody can click it, at any time. After this the Binocs algorithm starts to work (no questions asked). Binocs will show the progress and automatically run an unconstrained and constrained analysis.

Update analysis

When it’s finished you refresh your screen, et voila! Plus you’ll always have a clear indication of when the analysis last updated.

Unconstrained and constrained in one

2. Admins still have some extra possibilities

A lot of our clients link Binocs to other applications. During a synchronization an analysis update would give strange results. Therefore administrators have the possibility to disable the update analysis button temporarily until the updates are done (via the system settings).

Next to that, administrators also have the possibility to save analyses for later in the history.

3. We tidied up the buttons and drop downs on the analyze screens

Since the buttons are in a more logical order, and grouped differently, it’s now much more clear what you are looking at and where you can do what. For example for the Analyze workload screen saving a configuration as a new report is now in the “report dropdown” and showing extra report options + exporting to excel are grouped together in the “more” actions.

4. And while we were at it…

We added one of THE top requests = showing the available free capacity in the analyze workload report. Seeing the free capacity of your team or knowing who’s under/over assigned is now a piece of cake. Just click the “show free capacity” and get new insights.

Show capacity

Oh and by the way, want to see the workload in FTE instead of hours? It’s available now as well in the Analyze Workload report (by changing the configuration settings).

FTE View

Just one important remark. When you choose Monthly FTE you need to make sure you’re using Month in the rows. Same for Quarterly FTE, you need to make sure you’re using Quarter in the rows.

5. And then there are those small things

These aren’t the kind of changes that people immediately notice, but they appreciate them when they run into them. It’s just better design. Some examples are adding a filter to the report dropdown, making it more clear when you are hovering a dropdown item and only showing the delete actions (trash icon) when hovering (to avoid misclicks)

Nicer dropdowns
